A year ago, Margaret Simmons witnessed a murder by her boss, a lawyer with powerful political connections. Not knowing who she could trust, she ran, ending up in the remote coastal village of Victory Cove. Using a new name, Megan Summers, and becoming a recluse in an old house at the end of nowhere, she has devoted the last year of her life to preparing for when the murderer finally comes after her -- as she knows he will.
Jake Grogan is a very successful electrician who designs electrical systems for skyscrapers. Having been adopted, he's never known about his birth parents and frankly never really cared, until he received a letter from a woman claiming to be his birth mother, instructing him to go to Victory Cove and speak to the woman she says is his grandmother.
When he arrives at the old house however, instead of an elderly woman, Jake finds Megan, a woman who obviously wants nothing more than for him to leave her in peace. When a powerful storm hits, however, Jake is forced to stay the night with Megan, despite the fact that she watches him as though she thinks that someone sent him there to do her harm.
Overall, this was a nice way to pass a summer day. While the themes were a little heavy at times for a pool-side read, the UST was nice and tasty without ever getting explicit. Recommended for fans of forced seclusion, secret identities, and finally confronting your inner demons. 3.5/5 Stars
