I sigh. I absolutely adore the Demonica series by Larissa Ione; it’s ranks in the top five of all series I’ve ever read. That said, however, I was very very disappointed in one main thing about this book — there’s the dreaded “forced nudity” thing. *sigh* Those who know me realize that forcing a heroine to be naked, or even to be naked and viewed without her knowledge is such a huge turn-off to me. I absolutely cannot stand this literary device, and sadly, more and more authors seem to fall back on this one. Why? I don’t know. I’ve guessed that it’s because it makes the heroine more vulnerable, or in some cases (such as this one) help to move along the lustful feelings of the hero or whatnot. Regardless, it irks me and I was very disappointed to see this occur on multiple occasions in this novel.
However.
I still loved it!
Even though this is the first book in the Lords of Deliverance series, newcomers should be aware that it is a spinoff of the Demonica Series, and as such, doesn't work very well as a standalone.
Overall, it was a very solid entry into the Demonica universe. While I wish that Ms. Ione hadn’t stooped to the forced nudity thing, I was able to get past that, though in the end, it did lose a star for me because of it. Final rating? 3.5/5, and I’m GREATLY anticipating Immortal Rider, Famine’s story, due out in December.
